Keston has supplied a Combi 2 C30 twin flue boiler to a residential property in Edinburgh as part of an upgrade to its existing Vokera Mynute twin flue appliance that had come to the end of its operational life.
THE CHALLENGE
When a tenanted residential property in Saint Stephen’s Street in Edinburgh needed a suitable appliance to replace its existing twin flue boiler, located in the hall cupboard of the property, it needed a cost-effective solution installed with minimum disruption to the household.
To avoid the expensive and time-consuming task of moving a new boiler to accommodate a concentric flue, Celsius Plumbing and Heating and Keston worked together to find a practical, cost-effective and customer friendly solution that would enable the boiler to remain in its original location.
SOLUTION
The chosen system for the project was a Keston Combi 2 C30 twin flue combi boiler with a Keston filter. This option was the only solution available on the market that meant the new boiler could remain in its existing location and not have to be relocated to an area next to an outside wall, such as the bedroom.
“By opting for the Keston twin flue system, we could keep the new boiler in the same hall location. This helped to reduce costs and inconvenience for the customer”, comments Michael Cairns, Celsius Plumbing and Heating.
COST SAVINGS
Replacing a boiler can often mean moving its position, to comply with specific requirements on the placement of the flue and air intake on the exterior of the building and ventilation for the internal boiler location in line with BS5440. These requirements, which ensure that waste gases do not compromise safety, are very clear on distances away from windows, doors and vents, other property features and neighbouring properties. However, this can be an expensive and time consuming job. By retrofitting the existing twin flue installation with a Combi 2 twin flue boiler, the need to fit a concentric flue was avoided. This meant that the new Keston boiler could remain in the same space within the property, using the same flue route.
MINIMAL DISRUPTION
By keeping the boiler in its original location, the household experienced minimal disruption during the upgrade. In addition, valuable savings were achieved during installation on aspects such as altering gas and water pipework, wiring, creating a new flue hole, and any subsequent expensive remedial stonework. As a result, the customer has been able to benefit from valuable savings. Furthermore, to enhance system performance and reduce maintenance intervals, the Combi 2 twin flue boiler was installed with a Keston Filter. Going forward, this will protect the system against the damaging effects of contaminants, sludge and debris.
PRESERVATION OF SPACE AND AESTHETICS
The Keston Combi 2 twin flue system now makes the best practical use of space within the property, without compromising on its aesthetics. Moreover, as the new boiler remains located away from any living or rest areas, noise is kept to a minimum, leaving the tenants to benefit from a comfortable home.
EFFICIENT AND RELIABLE
Incorporating an intelligent pre-heat function that learns usage patterns based on 24-hour trends, the Keston Combi 2 also provides the tenant with faster hot water and increased energy savings.
THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
Following a successful and streamlined upgrade, the tenant is now benefiting from a reliable and energy efficient upgrade which has been conveniently and flexibly achieved with minimum disruption to the property and its occupants.
